logo_3I was at the Fermenters Guild Annual Conference recently and attended some of the excellent seminars.  One in particular was conducted by CHWTA.  This is the organization that represents the manufacturers of wine kits in Canada.  By far, the largest suppliers of wine kits are in turn owned by the largest Canadian wineries.   They reported the results of a professional quality survey that the CHWTA had recently completed.  The amazing fact was that some 14.6% of all bottled wine sold in Canada in 2007 was made from wine kits!  In Ontario, the figure was 17.4% and in British Columbia it was 22.0%.  An even more suprising fact is that total “bottled wine market” includes wines such as Champagne and the very popular wine coolers.  This means that wine made from wine kits which is still table wine was probably closer to 20% in 2007.  One out of every five bottles of wine bought in Canada was made from a wine kit!
